BC uses separate GST and PST — not Ontario's HST. We know the difference. Remote bookkeeping for Vancouver tech companies, retailers, real estate investors, and service businesses.
BC-specific tax note
Unlike Ontario (13% HST), BC businesses register and file separately for GST (5% with CRA) and BC PST (7% with the BC Ministry of Finance). We manage both.

BC Tax System
When Ontario and most other provinces moved to the Harmonized Sales Tax (HST), British Columbia voted to keep its own PST in a 2011 referendum. The result: Vancouver businesses deal with two separate tax authorities, two separate registrations, and two separate filing cycles every quarter.
The BC PST is collected by the province and filed with the BC Ministry of Finance — not the CRA. The rules for what is PST-taxable differ significantly from what is GST-taxable. Software, telecommunications, and some professional services have particularly nuanced PST treatment.
Many bookkeepers and even some accountants in BC get PST wrong because they apply GST logic to it. North Ledger trains specifically on BC PST rules and has set up compliant bookkeeping systems for dozens of BC businesses.
